You cut me up
You cut me down
You cut me through and through with bitterness

You take me in
You take me out
You take me down into your hopelessness

Claiming that my life is a second class existence
Won't make life any better for you
Reaching for your Bible to justify your hatred
Won't make God hate your enemies even if you

Call it love
Yes you call it love
Why do you call it love

You give me fear
You give me guilt
You give me hate and rage and emptiness
You make me lie
You make me cry
You make me try to change my humanness

Marrying the state to your church won't heal division
Just multiply the scars that we bear
If you take our rights don't pretend it is your duty
Don't dress your bigotry up in drag

And call it love
Yes you call it love
How dare you call it love

Love's so wide
It's so deep
It's so high
It's so freely given
To you
What do you give to us now?

Love's so rich
It's so real
It is all
Yet we feel we need to hide it
Away
Keep it from each other

INSTRUMENTAL

And you call it love ...
Love's in no hurry, it is kind.
Yes you call it love ...
Love does not envy, does not boast.
Why do you call it love ...
Love is not proud and is not rude.
But still you call it love ...
Love does not seek it's own reward.
Yes you call it love ...
Love has no anger, keeps no score.
How dare you call it love ...
Love rejects evil for the truth.
You cannot call it love ...
Love always guards and trusts and hopes.
And yet you call it love ...
Love perseveres, love never fails.
No-one could call it love ...
