I heard a song on the radio
Just the other day
And as I listened to the words
I realised that
I felt just that way
The singer was a fellow
Who had begun to wonder why
A pitcher or a quarterback could make a million
But a poor man works until he dies.
Do we really want it
Do we really need it
Then something about a dream
You could almost hear the tears fall
As he played out his theme.
Then came the part
That I've always liked the best
About the preachers on TV
In a suite and a tie and a vest.
They say that they pray for the poor folk
And to do His work they will not rest
Send your money to the Lord
But give you their address.
Then the song was over
The music faded away
And the next voice I heard said
"Let us prey".
