I went for a walk one day
Down an old railroad track
It was so sad to see.
The rails were rusted
The ties were rotten
Just a ghost of former glory.
Once a rail you were proud to ride
Now unused and old.
The station house windows stared blankly
Forgotten and cold.
The signal tower showed proceed
There are no orders here
The temperature was ninety degrees
But still I felt cold
As I wiped away a tear.
The switch was still set
For the main line
How long, how long had it been?
Once this was a great railroad
Would it ever be again?
